The Sweet Escape

This weekend I got to see none other than Gwen Stefani at Coors Amphitheater. She sounds great live and puts on an awesome show, so it was well worth the 2+ hours it took to actually get into the parking lot (not to mention the 2 hours getting out). Her music can be a bit funky, but it definitely grows on you, especially after hearing her perform live. Taking a trip down memory lane, some may recall that No Doubt was actually my first favorite band ever, so its kinda neat that 10 years after first hearing their CD, I finally get to see her in concert. Good stuff yo.

In my semi-offical quest to enjoy San Diego before exiling myself to illinois for the next four years, I recently enjoyed trips to Julien and Petco Park. Julien consisted of pie tasting as usual, along with that awesome dudley's fruit bars. The best part of the day though was me doing my impersonation of Krang on the drive home.

Padres game was fun, except that they lost. I'm pretty sure that I'm bad luck to the Padres, but only against divisional opponents. So from now on, no more giants, dodgers, rockies, or dback games, and everything should be peachy. I did get to see my new hero Adrien Gonzalez jack TWO homeruns, so at least that was pretty cool.

24 was awesome. Jack Bauer takes out SEVEN terrrorists with backup coming about 2 seconds late. Whew. Jack is the man.

"Damn Jack."

So I got accepted to the University of Illinois College of Medicine, and that will be where I will spend the next four years of my life being overloaded with work. Its a good school and I'm very relieved to have gotten in; it seriously makes all the long days of MCAT studying, volunteering, and all that other stuff I had to do just to get in all feel worth it. Phew. Hopefully I'll get into the Chicago campus, and not have to live in hillbillyville, but I think I'll be happy whichever campus I end up at. Though I'm definitely going to miss the San Diego weather.

I also didn't get a spring break, thanks to the abyss that is my lab, but I did get to spend the weekend at Disneyland with the folks, which felt like a neat little vacation in itself. We stayed at a hotel right across the street from the park, and brought the furry guy Calvin with us too. The park was just as fun as when I was there 6 months ago, and I got to ride Indiana Jones twice. Go Fast Pass!!
