Here's an interesting philisophical question that should increase Tag-board use: Which would you choose; being remembered for 100 years, or 10 more years of life?

If you haven't already, check out Vic's blog to see the HOSSS of buddies. Hahaha. Great way to reminisce over the good ole days, although it kinda makes you feel stupid at the same time.
"I looked above the other day
cuz I think I'm good and ready for a change
I live my life by the moon
if it's high play it low
if it's harvest go slow
and if it's full then go"

Well, evil has been defeated and the streets of downtown san diego have been kept safe. Phew. What an interesting game, totally not what i expected it to be. Sure, the team that i wanted to win actually won this year, but it certainly doesnt compare with the dramatic finish of last years last second field goal, or the longest yard of 3 years ago. And the fact that i actually found myself rooting for john gruden and warren sapp actually kind of disturbs me. But what the heck, the raiders go home losers, so all's good, right?

Seriously though, with all the hype of the #1 offense vs. the #1 defense, i figured we'd see something more like the highly-unentertaining-other-than-the-halftime-show giants ravens superbowl. We actually got defense and lots of points in this one, if thats even possible. I think thats actually a contradiction. Hmm. No Doubt was awesome though.

Somewhat diversified playlist of the moment:
Beach Boys - Don't Worry Baby
Nelly Furtado - Turn out the Light
Pras - Ghetto Superstar
Beatles - Hello, goodbye

Quote of the moment: "Good thing its already as big as it can get" -Kevin, responding to a totally innocent comment by Vic.

Well, here's to a week with 2 midterms and an essay.

"Where is your logic
Who do you need
Where can you turn
In your delicate time of need"

An example of my ethics and society professor's sense of humor.

I'm back from my journeys in and around san fran. Phew, what a weekend. The drive up there was nice and long, with much of it done in very dense fog. 10 hours, with one break in the middle. My dad is a machine. Must be from all that practice driving to and from vegas. We stopped for lunch at a jack in the box about 2 minutes from the in n out we ate at leaving six flags. Brings back memories, doesnt it?

So after arriving at the hotel at 2 in the morning, we got a few hours of sleep before heading off to the baptism, which we missed. But we met up with all the family peeps, and went to get lunch at some philipino restaurant. Now, a philipino family's idea of a good time can be described in one word: food. And sometimes karaoke. Needless to say, we ate a lot and listened to some people sing. We also drove around a bit and ended up hanging out at some huge house that had a tv in the garage. The next day we headed over to san fran to see some of the sights. We drove over the golden gate, and took pictures above and below it where it was very very windy, and therefore nice and cold. Taking pictures of our 20+ group can be summed up with the word "Compress!". And also the phrase "One more camera!". Then we took a drive up and down some of the more hilly areas (it felt like going up on a rollercoaster . . . more good memories) including the famous "most crooked" road (perhaps the most inefficient architectural design right up there with those stairs going to revelle). We had dinner at fisherman's wharf, which was good, and walked around a bit before coming back home to play cards and watch movies. We played that one game called chems or kemps or whatever will called it, except the new jersey people called it gabes. You'd be surprised how successful a signal "Look over here!" was.

It was kinda cool to see a lot of the kids who i havent seen for something like 7 years. The toddlers turned to young children, the babies had become little kids, a new baby came out of nowhere, and i was referred to as "the skinny one who had gotten huskier".

Well, it has happened. The raiders are coming to san diego, and their "fans" with them. My weekend travel into the heart of the lion's den hasnt put them any higher on my list of people i like , so all i can say is dont stay out late on the streets this superbowl weekend.

I actually got some reading done amidst the 16+ hours spent on the road. That leaves me with only a little more reading, some calc problems, an endless list of chem questions, 2 quizs to study for and an essay to write. That being said, i think im going to go play some much missed ps2.

"Don't wish it away
Don't look at it like its forever
Between you and me I could honestly say
that things can only get better

The best time to watch jeopardy is when they have their college tournaments. But the 2nd best time is when they have their junior competition! Then, the questions are really easy so you can yell them out before the middle schoolers do and feel really smart. Speaking of which, for those of you that watched wheel of fortune last week they had a football player week and Drew Brees was there! And if that isnt cool enough, he was partnered with a cute girl from UCSD! And on top of that, they WON! yay for Brees and UCSD girl!

Ethics and politics sounded like it was going to be extremely boring this quarter, but it is actually one of the most interesting classes i've been in in a while. It is quite stimulating, and there is a nifty online forum thing where people have been having discussions too. Its kinda like philosophy club again, except with noticably more people!!

"And While I'm away
Dust out the demons inside
And it wont be long
Before you and me run
To the place in our hearts
Where we hide"

I saw a commercial for a CD called Kids Bopz (i think thats how they spell it). Its basically a collection of popular songs sung by kids. Seems fun enough. But the interesting part is some of the songs they choose to have the kids sing. They included songs from POD, linkin park, p. diddy, and nelly. (i kid you not)

Quote of the week: "Shut the hell up!!!" -my chem professor to us. Yeah, the one that i said was pretty funny.

I've complained about this many times before, but the headlights on my wonderful aerostar point down, so they basically illuminate only the ground about 5 feet in front of me, and dont even do a very good job of that. And for those of you that have never driven on that black mountain extension at night, it gets extremely dark when nobody else is around you. So it gets very hard to see with my headlights. And the fog didnt help. Or the cars going the opposite direction with high beams on. But i'm not worried. Anyone want to go for a drive??

This weekend, I am a titan fan. So go titans!!

Enjoy your 3 day weekend people. Mine's actually 4 days, thanks to no class tuesday. Later kids!

Mondays are long. I have five classes and the annoying part is the hour of time between my 3:00 chem class and 5:00 writing class. It would have been nice to get them right after each other. Oh well. And all my chem buddies have chem lab right after so i'm left sitting here in the geisel library updating my blog like some fool who, well, updates his blog.

It seems that i will be up in san fran this upcoming 3 day weekend. Me and jon threw around the possibility of hanging out over the weekend. I know Derek isnt going to be up there until the 21st, but maybe you can come with us and save yourself a plane ticket! Then we could all have a mini reunion and do fun stuff.

Vic gave me a funny picture of me and derek riding up the escalator in mission valley. There are also some pretty good pictures of everyone with mrs hepler when we made our triumphant return to mt carmel back in december. And a picture of me riding on derek and jon's shoulders in a swimming pool. Nevermind about that one.

I have an interesting set of TA's this quarter. I have that one TA from Greece that i mentioned a couple days ago. For calc i have a guy who looks a lot like owen wilson, the guy from shanhai noon and i spy. He has a soft voice that tends to crack every now and then, kinda like jon!! Heh heh. For chem, my TA is a girl from ohio who is kinda pretty. All my TA's are pretty nice though, so things should be good.

I've ridden on the campus shuttles more times this past week than i did all quarter. Theyre actually kinda fun, and convenient since they stop at most of my usual places.

So yesterday i finally got to meet my warren writing teacher. His name is David something, and he seems like a pretty cool guy, so this quarter of writing should be allright. Our topic is music and subcultures, which has to be infinitely more interesting than globalization. He mentioned that he was thinking of making next quarter's topic be cars. Ha ha. You can imagine vic's reaction when i told him that.

I still havent figured out the whole thing about turning in your lab notebook from AP chem and getting exempt from chem lab. If anyone finds out lemme know, k?

The other day derek accompanied me to get get my $32 reader for ethics and politics, and on the way back we stopped by miramar for some 25 cent pool. I believe that i all but kicked butt. Heh heh heh. The final score was something like 5 games to 3, so the force was indeed with me. I also made this amazing and incredible shot where 3 balls (all my own) dropped in 3 different pockets. Ask derek about it if you dont believe me :P

I saw helen and ric here the other day. Funny since they dont go to ucsd.

Driving here at sunset was kind of a new experience. For once the traffic was going in the other direction. Thank goodness. Although driving into the sun wasnt all that fun. Did i mention i ran into a tumbleweed the other day?

So yesterday I made my not so glorius return to the college by the beach, UCSD. My first class was the excitingly named ethics and society, one of the 4 (snicker) GE courses required in Warren, not counting programs of concentration. The class sounded boring, and the prof looked boring (usually not a very good combination), but it turns out the stuff might actually be half interesting, and the prof wasnt as boring as she looked. She called the Gulf War episode 1, and referred to the upcoming war with Iraq as episode 2, clone of the attack. Har har. Calc a couple footsteps away, with vic. The prof wasnt as cool as prof evans, and i'm starting to miss him a little, but she seems to be decent too, and with any luck a heck of a lot easier. Afterwards spent time in vic's dorm where he showed me the T3 trailor, then lunch in the warren cafeteria where we discussed many deep and profound topics. I had my ethics discussion later. My TA is from Greece and studied in England, and seems pretty cool. Next was chem, in the exact same building, with almost the exact same classmates, where I sat with the exact same friends, in the exact same row. But the prof was totally different. Decently funny actually, and possibly the first teacher in the last 5 years to actually make me laugh unvoluntarily (as a result of his so stupid sounding that theyre funny jokes). Seems like he's gonna be pretty tough though, but you have to give credit to a teacher who gives his aim sn to his students and makes jokes about playing aliens vs predator and being called a nazi by his students.

Something that bugs me is when i'm walking along somewhere, and someone behind me yells "Mike! Mike! Turn around!". So of course having the millions and millions of fans that i do, i often turn around, only to find out that the person yelling was referring to one of the other billion of mikes in the crazy world. So after years of these traumatizing experiences, i almost never turn around when someone calls out the name "Mike". Well, yesterday was yet another example of this strategy backfiring on me. I'm walking along hearing some girl yell out "Mike!", but i keep walking while she keeps yelling, wishing that whoever she was yelling to would just turnaround. On about the third or fourth "Mike", i finally turn around to see that it is Diane yelling at me. Geez.

For those of you non San Diegans, or those that have been asleep the last 2 days, it has been REALLY windy around here. The noise of the wind knocking the trees outside my window around has waken me up the last 2 mornings. At one point the wind got so strong that it sounded like i was on the beach with a major hurricane starting to form.

Thank goodness for No Class Tuesdays!!!

Saturday, January 04, 2003

Well, winter break is drawing to a close, and soon I will be returning to the wonderful campus of UCSD for my second quarter of fun classes. Time sure flew by, didnt it? We had some good times over the last 3 weeks, but I certainly didnt get as much done with friends as i would have liked. Oh well, I guess theres always spring break. This next quarter should be interesting. I have tuesdays off, and only one class on thursday (which happens to be at 6 in the evening). My classes are basically the same, with the exception of ethics and society instead of literature. So we'll see how it goes.

I'm not so sure 3 weeks was a long enough vacation. I dont feel like it was too short, but i'm not quite in the mode of actually being eager to start classes again (like at the end of that 12 week summer). But hey, good things are certain to happen this quarter, so lets go make the best of it.

I've been starting to reconsider choosing literature as my program of concentration, and am back to considering humanities instead. Its because of all those history programs i've been catching recently.

I really meant to get a bunch of my pictures scaned so that my web site would actually be worth checking out. Sorry to everyone who really wanted to see them.

Here we go again . . .

Thursday, January 02, 2003

Its a little late, but happy new year! Wow, 2002 came and went, didnt it? Well, not really. But it was an interesting year, to say the least. It had some of the highest peaks and lowest valleys i've had in a while. There really were some great times. Other parts just plain sucked. But, you take what you get, and 2002 was a good year and i learned a lot from it. So here's to 2003.

Yesterday was fun. Derek came over to play some madden, then eric came to play too. Jen showed up and watched, then vic came in time for the pizza. We were going to watch a movie jen picked out but we were too late, so we drove over to edwards in mira mesa and stood around before deciding to play pool. Pool was cool as always. For some reason we ended up back at my place, with some interesting driving antics on the way, including me vic and eric switching cars (while on the road i might add) and jen and derek racing each other down salmon river road. Then for some even stranger reason we all ended up in my room where derek proceeded to play with my exo squad toys and jen looking through a bunch of pictures. After we were done with that we headed over to erics house where we watched some of Jon's bootleg copy of Die Another Day (he just got back from china) and played some video games. So that was fun.

College starts up again in a matter of days. Unbelievable. Oh well, see you guys later . . .
